It's all over the
news right now with the recent attacks on Sony's Playstation network,
soca.gov.uk and the CIA's official website.
These attacks made the headlines, and were attacked by the same group,
LulzSec. There are, however, thousands of hacks
that happen on a daily basis.
What is the point of these attacks? Often the attacks are
done to steal credit card, Social Security/Social Insurance Numbers,
and other personal information. It is often done to setup what are
called ``warez sites``, which are locations used to distribute pirated
software, music and movies. Other times it is done simply for
the thrill and bragging rights.
What can you do to prevent these attacks? Make sure that your
web host is up-to-date on the latest security patches for the servers
and that they are coding your site in such a way to minimize your risk
exposure. Unfortunately there is no way to be 100% safe which
is why it is also important that your host maintain a current off-site
backup so that can be used to restore your site quickly should your
site ever be hacked.
At KL Insight we strive to ensure that our servers are up-to-date with
the latest security patches. We also code in a framework that
is known for its security. Our servers are backed up daily
and we can create a customized backup solution should your site require
real time backups. You can be assured that your site is as
well protected as possible and should the unthinkable happen, your
site's content will be back up as soon as possible.
